Earthen Grave's self-titled debut album, released in 2012, is a unique blend of doom and thrash metal, infused with the melancholic beauty of violin.

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Earthen Grave stood out for their incorporation of violin alongside the traditional heavy metal instrumentation. Violinist Rachel Barton Pine's emotional and shredding solos added a distinct layer to the band's sound, which they themselves described as "thrashy Chicago doom metal."

The album was well-received by critics, who praised the band's innovative approach to doom metal and the standout performance of violinist Rachel Barton Pine. AllMusic reviewer Eduardo Rivadavia noted the band's clear influence from Chicago doom legends Trouble, but also complimented their use of violin, which "transforms songs like 'Burning a Sinner' and 'Beneath a Shovel Load' into markedly folk- and thrash-infused propositions.AllMusci review of Earthen Grave

The self-titled Earthen Grave boasted ten tracks, including covers of Witchfinder General's "Burning A Sinner" and Pentagram's "Relentless." The album showcased the band's ability to seamlessly blend slow, crushing doom passages with faster, more aggressive thrash elements. Mark Weiner's vocals were described as "mourning" and "aggressive," perfectly complementing the band's melancholic and heavy soundscapes.

Earthen Grave disbanded in 2014, but their self-titled debut remains a cult classic among fans of doom and thrash metal. If you're looking for something unique and heavy, with a touch of beauty, Earthen Grave is definitely worth checking out.
