Progressive metal band from Helsinki, Finland, founded in 1990.  Amorphis started out as a pure death metal band, but soon steered away from the genre's underground scene and have since created their own unique and highly successful blend of heavy metal, progressive rock and folk. The name Amorphis was derived from the word "amorphous", which means 'no determinate form or shape'.

With feral ferocity Finland's Amorphis emerged from Scandinavia's renowned death metal scene in the early nineties as contenders for world domination. Their debut release The Karelian Isthmus is a crushing crusade of majestically moving atmospheric death metal. Top-notch Sunlight Studios production and fantastic cover artwork, courtesy of Miran Kim, dramatically realized the powerful medieval theme of the record.
