Saint Vitus' fifth studio album, V, was released in 1990 on Hellhound Records. It was the band's first release not on SST Records and the last one to feature singer Scott "Wino" Weinrich (until 2012's Lillie: F-65).

The album is considered to be one of Saint Vitus' best works, and is known for its slow, heavy riffs, dark and introspective lyrics, and Wino's powerful vocals. The album also features a more polished production than the band's previous releases, thanks in part to the production of Stephan Gross.

V is a concept album that deals with themes of addiction, despair, and death. The album's opening track, "Living Backwards," sets the tone with its mournful lyrics and sludgy guitars. Other standout tracks include the epic "Patra (Petra)," the brooding "Jack Frost," and the aggressive "Angry Man."

V was a critical and commercial success, and helped to cement Saint Vitus' status as one of the leading bands in the doom metal genre. The album has been praised for its originality, heaviness, and emotional impact. It is considered to be one of the essential albums of doom metal, and is a must-listen for any fan of the genre.
