Losing two founding members in as many years would end some bands. However, ever since vocal sorceress Sian Greenaway’s arrival in 2017, Alunah’s regeneration has been nothing but spellbinding. If last year’s impressive "Amber & Gold" EP weren’t proof enough, then this new album assuredly finds the Birmingham doom cult reincarnated through fire. Flickering with sultry harmonies beneath a dense mist of Sabbathian riffs, the quartet’s fifth album flirts with a brooding darkness, packed throughout with a confidence so fervent it’s easy to forget guitarist Dean Ashton is new to the fold. This is no fleeting dalliance either, and the chemistry on display is intense, manifesting itself as a burst of thunder in "Trapped And Bound", ethereal passion in "Hunt" and pure ecstasy in the climatic "Lake Of Fire". Powerful yet seductive, "Violet Hour" is poised to give Alunah a new lease of life where they might have simply faded away.
