White Pony is the third studio album by American alternative metal band Deftones, released on June 20, 2000, through Maverick Records. It was produced by Terry Date, who produced the band's first two albums, Adrenaline and Around the Fur. Recording sessions took place between August and December 1999 at Larrabee Sound Studios in West Hollywood and The Plant Recording Studios in Sausalito, California.

The album is considered by many to be Deftones' magnum opus, and it has been praised for its experimental sound, which blends elements of heavy metal, nu metal, alternative metal, art rock, and post-grunge. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over 2 million copies in the United States. It has been certified platinum by the RIAA.

The album title "White Pony" is street slang for cocaine. However, there are other meanings for the album name, including a sexual reference, as explained by Chino Moreno: "There's a lot of different references for White Pony. It's a lot of different things to a lot of different people."

The album cover art was designed by Storm Thorgerson, who is known for his work with Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. The cover features a white pony standing in a field of flowers. The pony is surrounded by a halo of light, and it has a serene expression on its face. The cover art is meant to represent the beauty and fragility of life.

The album's singles were "Change (In the House of Flies)", "Digital Bath", "Elite", and "Back to School (Mini Maggit)". The song "Change (In the House of Flies)" was a commercial success, reaching number 2 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song "Digital Bath" is considered to be one of Deftones' best songs, and it has been praised for its atmospheric sound and Moreno's emotional vocals.

White Pony is a landmark album in the history of alternative metal. It helped to expand the genre and introduce it to a wider audience. The album is still considered to be one of the best albums of the 2000s, and it continues to influence new generations of musicians.
