This was King Crimson's first and only single release that wasn't included on a studio album.  Both tracks gained popularity among fans and became staples in the band's live setlist.  A longer version of "Cat Food" appeared on the band's second album, "In the Wake of Poseidon," released in May 1970.  A live version of "Groon" was featured on the "Earthbound Live" album, and various studio takes were included on other releases.

Despite not being a full album, "Cat Food / Groon" holds a special place in King Crimson's history.  The single showcases the band's early sound, characterized by complex arrangements, improvisational elements, and a blend of rock, jazz, and classical influences.
The enduring popularity of both tracks demonstrates their lasting appeal and significance to King Crimson's legacy.
