The Mos Generator was first released on cd only in march 2002. we didn’t have much luck finding a label to release it (there weren’t many labels putting out this kind of music in 2001) so I put it out on my label, music abuse records. 1000 copies were pressed, and it sold out in just over a year. in 2011 ripple music did a 10-year anniversary edition in a vinyl/cd set with the leftover studio tracks and a live show from 2002 as bonus tracks. for that release, i remixed all the tracks to give them a fresh perspective. i also did that because i couldn’t locate unmastered original mixes and i didn’t want to re-release the masters from the original cd because i wasn’t happy with the sound. the ripple release also featured a reproduction of the original artwork. the music abuse version had very low-resolution artwork and when it was blown up to album size it looked terrible so i reshot most of the photos to build the album cover. in late 2020 i located the unmastered original 2001 mixes of the album and the original photos in the cover collage. Although still low res, i was able to reconstruct the cover to look nice as a 12”x12” album sleeve. I’m very excited to be presenting this original mix and artwork as it would have been released on vinyl 20 years ago. - reed, January 2021
