Pantera's debut studio album,  Metal Magic, was released on June 10, 1983, by Metal Magic Records.  The album shows a very different style from the groove metal sound that Pantera would become known for in the 1990s. Metal Magic is  more  heavily influenced by glam metal and hard rock, with bands like Kiss and Van Halen being a major influence.

The album was produced by Jerry Abbott, father of Pantera guitarists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, and features vocalist Terry Glaze, who would be replaced by Phil Anselmo the following year. Despite the different musical direction, the album does showcase the early talents of the Abbott brothers, particularly Dimebag Darrell's guitar work.

Metal Magic is not considered to be one of Pantera's best albums, but it is still an interesting listen for fans of the band who want to hear their early sound. The album is also notable for being the only Pantera album to feature Terry Glaze on vocals.
