Evil Empire is the second studio album by American rock band Rage Against the Machine, released by Epic Records on April 16, 1996. It debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart with sales of 249,000 copies, and the song "Tire Me" won a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance; "Bulls on Parade" and "People of the Sun" were nominated for Grammys for Best Hard Rock Performance. On May 24, 2000, the album was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The album was produced by Rage Against the Machine and Brendan O'Brien, and was recorded in Los Angeles. The album's title is a reference to Ronald Reagan's use of the term "Evil Empire" to describe the Soviet Union. The album's lyrics are politically charged and deal with themes such as imperialism, capitalism, and war.

The album was a critical and commercial success, and is considered to be one of the most important albums of the 1990s. It has been praised for its powerful lyrics, aggressive music, and political message.
