Seasons in the Abyss is the seventh studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer, released on October 9, 1990. It is considered to be one of the greatest thrash metal albums of all time.

The album was recorded at Hit City West in Hollywood, California, and produced by Rick Rubin. The album's sound is a departure from the speed and aggression of Slayer's previous albums, such as Reign in Blood (1986) and South of Heaven (1988). The songs on Seasons in the Abyss are slower and more melodic, but they are still heavy and aggressive.

The album's lyrics deal with themes of war, violence, and death. The title track, "Seasons in the Abyss", is about the cycle of violence that exists in the world. The song "War Ensemble" is about the horrors of war. The song "Dead Skin Mask" is about the serial killer Ed Gein.

The album was a critical and commercial success. It reached number 9 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album spawned the hit singles "War Ensemble" and "Dead Skin Mask".

Seasons in the Abyss is considered to be one of the greatest thrash metal albums of all time. It has been praised by critics and fans alike for its heavy sound, its dark and violent lyrics, and its overall impact on the thrash metal genre.
