The Roadside is a four-song EP by English singer Billy Idol, released on September 17, 2021. It is Idol's first release on George Harrison's Dark Horse Records and his first release of new material since 2014's album Kings & Queens of the Underground. The EP was produced by Butch Walker and features Idol's longtime collaborator, guitarist Steve Stevens.
The EP's songs all reference Idol's 1990 motorcycle crash, which nearly cost him his leg. The lead single, "Bitter Taste", is a rock ballad about the aftermath of the crash. The other songs on the EP are "Rita Hayworth", a tribute to the actress; "U Don't Have To Kiss Me Like That", a power ballad; and "Baby Put Your Clothes Back On", a tongue-in-cheek rocker.
The EP was a commercial success, reaching number 11 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart. It was also certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The Roadside is a strong return to form for Billy Idol. The songs are catchy, well-written, and full of Idol's trademark swagger. The EP is a must-have for fans of the singer and a great introduction for those who are new to his music.
