This album was recorded in Polar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, and mastered at Cosmos Mastering. It was produced by Leif Edling and Chris Laney.
The title track, "Lucifer Rising", is a cover of the song by the same name by the occult rock band Black Sabbath. The other new track on the album, "White God", is a tribute to the late vocalist Messiah Marcolin.
The live tracks on the album were recorded at the Release Athens festival in Athens, Greece, on June 22, 2007.
Lucifer Rising was a commercial success, reaching number 2 on the Swedish Albums Chart and number 14 on the Finnish Albums Chart. It was also well-received by critics, with many praising the band's return to form.
The album has been re-released several times, including a digipak edition with a bonus track, "Death Magic Doom", and a limited edition vinyl edition with clear and black splatter vinyl.
