Department of Corrections and Agathocles are both grindcore bands, but they have different styles. Department of Corrections is more technical and chaotic, while Agathocles is more brutal and simplistic. Department of Corrections' music is often described as "mathcore," while Agathocles' music is more traditional grindcore.

Department of Corrections was formed in 1991 in New York City. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist Dan Lilker, bassist Mike Williams, and drummer Ron Jarzombek. The band released their debut album, "Relapse," in 1992. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish Department of Corrections as one of the leading bands in the grindcore scene.

Agathocles was formed in 1985 in Ghent, Belgium. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist Bart Nagels, bassist Franky Claeys, and drummer Eric Brecht. The band released their debut album, "Scum," in 1987. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish Agathocles as one of the leading bands in the grindcore scene.

Department of Corrections and Agathocles have both toured extensively and released a number of albums. The bands have also collaborated on a number of projects, including the split album "Agathocles/Department of Corrections" (1993).

In terms of their sound, Department of Corrections is more technical and chaotic than Agathocles. Department of Corrections' music is often described as "mathcore," which is a subgenre of grindcore that is characterized by its complex rhythms and time signatures. Agathocles' music is more traditional grindcore, which is characterized by its fast tempos, harsh vocals, and short songs.
