Gojira's Magma is their sixth studio album, released on June 17, 2016, through Roadrunner Records. It was recorded at the band's self-built studio in New York City and produced by Joe Duplantier, the band's vocalist and guitarist.
Magma marked a bit of a departure from Gojira's previous work, incorporating a more accessible and atmospheric sound alongside their signature technicality. The album was critically acclaimed, with many praising its emotional depth and innovative songwriting.
The album is dedicated to the Duplantier brothers' mother, Patricia, who passed away during the recording of the album. The lyrics throughout the album deal with themes of loss, grief, and acceptance.
