The Allman Brothers Band was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969. The band consisted of brothers Gregg (vocals, keyboards) and Duane Allman (guitars), Dickey Betts (guitars, vocals), Berry Oakley (bass), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny Johanson (drums). The Allman Brothers Band were pioneers of Southern rock, a genre that fused elements of blues, rock, and country music. The band's sound was characterized by its twin lead guitar attack, its extended jams, and its soulful vocals.

The Allman Brothers Band released their debut album, The Allman Brothers Band, in 1969. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the band as a major force in American music. The band's follow-up album, Idlewild South, was released in 1970. The album featured the hit singles "Midnight Rider" and "Revival."

In 1971, the Allman Brothers Band released their third album, At Fillmore East. The album was recorded live at the Fillmore East in New York City, and it is considered to be one of the greatest live albums of all time. The album featured the hit singles "Hot 'Lanta" and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."

The Allman Brothers Band continued to release successful albums throughout the 1970s. The band's most popular albums from this period include Eat a Peach (1972), Brothers and Sisters (1973), and Win, Lose or Draw (1975).

In 1979, Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident. The band continued to tour and record, but they never fully recovered from Allman's death. The band disbanded in 1982, but they reunited in 1989. The band has continued to tour and record sporadically ever since.

The Allman Brothers Band are one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Their music has inspired countless other bands, and they continue to be a popular live act. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
