Black Sabbath was a four piece band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968. They were pioneers in the creation of heavy metal and doom. Black Sabbath played hard, blues rock and heavy metal.

Vol. 4 is the fourth studio album by the English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released on 25 September 1972, by Vertigo Records. It was the first album by Black Sabbath not produced by Rodger Bain; guitarist Tony Iommi assumed production duties.
