Skewbald:  Washington, D.C.

Skewbald/Grand Union was Ian MacKaye, Eddie Janney, John Falls, and Jeff Nelson. The band formed in 1981, after Lyle Preslar’s decision to go to college temporarily broke up Minor Threat. Jeff chose the name Grand Union for in honor of a nearby grocery store, but Ian preferred the word “Skewbald.” No consensus could be reached, so the band wound up having two names.
